Seeb, Rustaq players join National team camp

Muscat: Seeb and Rustaq players, who featured in the His Majesty’s Cup football championship final on Thursday, joined the Oman national football team’s internal camp on Saturday.


‘Red Warriors’ are gearing up to take on Vietnam and China on March 24 and 29 respectively as part of Group B matches in the AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to Qatar.


Six players from Seeb joined in the warm-up camp including: Mohsin al Ghassani, Khalid al Buraiki, goalkeeper Ahmed al Rawahi, Marwan al Siyabi, Arshad al Alawi, Amjad al Harthi and Mohammed al Amri.


Rustaq players who are picked up for the national team featured Mohammed al Ghafri and AbdulRahman al Ghassani.


The Sultanate of Oman football delegation will travel to Hanoi city on Monday as the match will be held at My Dinh National Stadium venue in Hanoi city, Vietnam, on Thursday.


The match will start at 4:00 pm (Oman time). It is expected that the team will have more than three training sessions to perform ahead of Vietnam’s encounter.


Despite Oman’s hopes which were dented to qualify to Qatar 2022, Ivankovic’s men will look to end the Asian qualifiers campaign in the fourth place.

The qualifiers registered some memorable results for ‘Red Warriors’ including the most notably the historic win over the Asian heavyweights Japan in the opener in September.


After Japan’s victory, Oman had suffered two successive defeats against Saudi Arabia (1-0) and Australia (3-1). Then, Oman beat Vietnam 3-1 before holding China to a 1-1 draw in Sharjah city.


Later, Japan edged Oman 1-0 while Saudi Arabia repeated their win in the away game 1-0 while the last encounter against Australia ended in a 2-2 in Muscat.


On March 11, 29 players were called up by the national team’s head coach, Branko Ivankovic for the forthcoming domestic camp ahead of Vietnam assignment.


The list featured seven probables from Seeb club including: Mohsin al Ghassani, Khalid al Buraiki, Ahmed al Rawahi, Marwan al Siyabi, Arshad al Alawi, Amjad al Harthi and Mohammed al Amri while others were from different clubs including: Fahmi Bait Durbeen, Ibrahim al Mukhaini, Ahmed al Khamisi, Omar al Fazari, Mahmood Mabrook, Ayman Darweesh, Omar al Malki, Abdullah Fawaz, Motaz Saleh, Mohsin Jawher, Ahmed al Kaabi, Mohammed al Ghafri, AbdulRahman al Ghassani, Al Mundher al Alawi, Khalid al Hajri, Fayez al Rushedi, Zaher al Aghbari, Jameel al Yahmadi, Harib al Saadi, Juma al Habsi, Salah al Yahyaei and Essam al Subhi.
