Muscat: The Ministry of Health announced on Thursday it will begin administering the seasonal influenza vaccine to citizens and residents, who are suffering from chronic diseases, aged 65 years and above, and who are planning to travel to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.

The aforementioned group is instructed to approach the nearest health institution to take the seasonal influenza vaccine, in order to avoid contracting an influenza infection that affects the respiratory system; which causes serious complications, especially in people with certain medical conditions and the elderly.

The ministry clarified the vaccine will be rolled out in the private health sector for untargeted groups, too.
