National Biotechnology Committee meets

Muscat: The National Biotechnology Committee (NBC) on Wednesday held its first meeting for 2022 under the chairmanship of Dr Saif Abdullah al Haddabi, Undersecretary for Research and Innovation.


The meeting reviewed all current legislations and regulations in the Sultanate of Oman regarding the governing of biotechnology use and its products, and protecting genetic data, as well as proposing the necessary regulations or required amendments on the existing systems.


The committee also discussed tasks required for qualifying the national cadres in the field of biotechnology, besides forming specialized groups to study topics of biotechnology in coordination with the competent authorities.


The NBC comprises members from the Ministry of Health, Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), the Royal Oman Police (ROP), Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources and Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion.
