With the participation of more than 200 competitors, Al Sumoud Marathon was launched on Friday.
The marathon was organised by Al Sumoud Team of Nizwa Club, as part of the team’s activities for 2022.
The coach, Mohammad bin Salim al Rashidi, the supervisor of the marathon, said: “Al Sumoud Marathon was organised in order to diversify the team’s activities and encourage the team members to take an interest in this game in the wilayat. As well as, to discover the participants and involve them in the upcoming competitions for athletics championships. The idea of the marathon and its diversity in age levels has won the approval of followers. The team seeks to organise similar races for the older age groups. In addition to organising mountain races during the coming period as part of its sporting activities.”
The marathon was held under the auspices of Khalfan bin Khamis bin Mohammad al Busaidy, Director of the Municipal Department in Nizwa, in the presence of Hamad bin Salim al Kindi, head of Al Sumoud Team.
In the junior level, Hamad bin Salim al Ismaili won the first place, Faisal bin Khalfan al Rashidi came in the second place, and Younis bin Khalfan al Kindi in third place.
At the level of youth, Al Bara bin Talal Al Obaidani won the first place, Younis bin Abdulrahim al Mandhari came in the second place, while Muhannad bin Saleem al Jamudi took the third place.
Al Yazan bin Abdullah al Shariqi won the first place at the children’s level. While Aws bin Basil al Hinai came in the second place, and Mohammad bin Khalil al Ruqaishi won the third place.
