

Muscat: Khalid bin Mohammed al Zubair was elected as Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) chairman on Monday for the 2022+1-2024 term.
At the Crown Plaza Hotel in Muscat, Al Zubair returned to his post as chief of OOC after he quit from the chairmanship position in 2018 with new vision and mission. The general assembly of OOC took place on Monday in presence of all the members.
The board of directors of the OOC featured election of HH Sayyid Azzan bin Qais al Said for vice-chairman's post. Abdullah bin Mohammed Bamakhalif, Chairman of Oman Table Tennis Association (OTTA), was elected for the treasurer post while Taha al Kishry was elected as board member and Secretary-General.
Seven other candidates were elected as the board members namely Engineer Khalfan bin Saleh al Naabi, Chairman of Oman Basketball Association (OBA), Dr Marwan bin Jumaa al Jumma, Chairman of Oman Hockey Association, Saif bin Sabaa al Rashidi, Chairman of Oman Cycling Association (OCA); Engineer Ibrahim bin Abdullah al Maqbali, Chairman of Oman Volleyball Association (OVA) and Mohsen bin Hamad al Masrouri, Vice-chairman of Oman Football Association (OFA).
Dr Abdullah bin Khamis Ambusaidi, Chairman of Oman School Sports Association was elected as the sports personality in the board while Qais bin Saud al Zakwani for board member and Mansoor al Touqi as sports figures representative. Lujaina bint Mohsin Haider was elected as sports administrator representing women sports.
TOP CREW ON BOARD
Al Zubair stated to the media post the election and affirmed that the newly elected OOC board featured top experienced members.
“The members have a wide experience in the sporting field and I am sure that they will deliver their best in this term. We are glad to have Dr Abdullah bin Khamis Ambusaidi, Chairman of Oman School Sports Association, in the board as we know all that schools are the foundations for the sporting works,” he said.
Al Zubair added:” The OOC will work closely with different sporting entities beside other government and private sector authorities to assist and support the sporting filed in the Sultanate of Oman.”
The experienced sporting administrator, Taha al Kishry, who was elected for the Secretary-General post said that the OOC will re-activate the relationship with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, sporting association and committees and establish new plans and initiatives towards development of Oman’s Olympic sports. Also, the presence of many experienced faces in the new board of directors will add positive value to the sports in the country and we will work hard for the external participations,” he added.
After the elections, the OOC held the first board meeting on Monday. During the meeting, the board announced formation of the executive committee which is headed by Khalid al Zubair with membership of Taha al Kishry, Abdullah Bamakhalif, Saif al Rashidi and Qais al Zakwani.
