MUSCAT: The second event of the 2022 GOjuniors Tour took place at Ghala Golf Club last weekend.

Established by the Oman Golf Association and supported by Oman LNG and all the golf clubs in Muscat the GOjuniors Tour provides an opportunity for junior golfers to compete and to meet golfers from other clubs. As well as the 10 events held throughout the year there is a running Order of Merit across the three age divisions.

In the oldest age group, the under 18’s, there were three players tied in the gross category (the score without any golfing handicap adjustment) with rounds of 82. In this instance the tie is resolved by looking at the players last 9 holes, after doing this it was junior national team player Ayman al Busaidi who took the win ahead of James Acebedo and Rayaan Ahmed. Ayman’s round had started poorly with a first 9 holes of 45, however he rallied well on the back 9 holes to post a one over par 37 for a total of 82 and the top spot in the gross category on ‘countback’. There was some consolation for James who, when taking handicaps into account, was awarded the best net score with a level par net 72.

In the under 15 division, the winners of the first event at Al Mouj Golf both claimed the same positions at Ghala Golf Club. In the gross division, Adam al Barwani narrowly held off Mahir Sampat (96) and Juan Moreno (96) with his round of 94 to claim victory. The net division was a little more clear cut with Pransh Jagwani once again taking the top spot with a very fine nine under par net 63.

Once again, the under 13 division attracted the biggest field and whilst their older counterparts competed over the full 18 holes of Ghala Golf Club the younger golfers took on just the first 9 holes. In the gross division, Krish Pawani held his nerve to par his final hole and edge out Jacobo Moreno by a single stroke. With handicaps factored in it was Mohib Al Kathiri who won the net division on countback over Jacobo.

Jamie Wood, Technical Director of the Oman Golf Association, said: “Our thanks go to Ghala Golf Club for hosting us and to our programme sponsor Oman LNG and partners Sohar Aluminium and Moore for allowing us to offer this fantastic opportunity to all of our junior golfers. As the season progresses, I’m sure that the GOjuniors Tour Order of Merit will become hotly contested with all of the players trying to take the top spot”.

The 2022 GOjuniors Tour features ten events throughout the year spread around the courses in Muscat and continues next weekend with the third event taking place at Ras Al Hamra Golf Club.
