Big surge in domestic air travelers in 2021

Muscat - The number of domestic flights operated at Muscat International Airport recorded a remarkable growth by the end of November 2021.


The number of incoming flights grew by 66.7 percent while that of outbound flights by 65.9 percent compared to the same period in 2020.


The total number of passengers on domestic flights (arriving and departing) increased by 100.8 percent by the end of November 2021, compared to the same period in 2020.


The National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI) report said that there has been a decrease in the number of incoming and outgoing international flights through various airports of the Sultanate of Oman - Muscat International Airport recorded a drop of 21.7 percent from 29,765 flights at the end of 2020 to 23,303 flights at the end of November 2021. The number of international flight passengers (arrivals, departures, and diversions) decreased by 28.1 percent from 3,540, 475 passengers at the end of November 2020 to 2, 545,0 37 passengers by the end of November 2021.


International air traffic through Salalah Airport witnessed a decline in the number of flights and passengers as the number of international flights decreased to 1,225 by the end of November 2021, a drop of 0.2 percent compared to the same period in 2020.


The number of domestic flights through Salalah Airport increased by 78.3


The number of domestic flights (incoming and outgoing) passengers traveling through Salalah Airport increased by 90.9 percent by the end of November 2021, compared to the same period in 2020.


Sohar Airport recorded a 65.9 percent decrease in the number of international flights from 534 at the end of November 2020 to 182 flights by the end of November 2021.


The number of passengers using the airport dropped decreased by 78.9 percent from 68,714 passengers at the end of November 2020 to 14,510 passengers by the end of November November 2021.


As for Duqm Airport, it recorded an increase of 235.3 percent in the number of domestic flights (departing and arriving) to reach 570 flights at the end of November 2021, compared to 170 flights at the end of November 2020.


The number of passengers increased by 195.9 percent from 15,053 passengers at the end of November 2020 to 44 1,486 passengers by the end of November 2021.


Passengers of Indian nationalities topped the list of travelers using the Muscat Airport (106,933) at the end of November 2021, followed by Bangladeshi nationals (34,497) and Pakistan nationals 29,890.
