Top world paddlers to compete at 2022 WTT Contender

Muscat: More than 200 paddlers representing around 45 countries will arrive in Muscat within few days to take part in the WTT Contender Muscat 2022. The top-class TT event will be organised by the Oman Table Tennis Association (OTTA) in coordination with WTT and World TT governing body ITTF.


The tournament will be held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat from February 27 to March 5.


World No 5 Jingkun Liangh of China and his teammate Gayoyuan Lin (WR No 10), besides WR No11 Quadri Aruna from Nigeria and French top paddler Gauzy (WR No 20) and many other top seeded paddlers will attend in the world-class TT tourney in Muscat.


Many domestic players from different clubs will join in the biggest TT event in Muscat including Muhannad al Balushi, Mashal al Shahi, Badar al Jassasi and Ahmed al Riyami in the men’s singles. It will be great opportunity for the local players to gain the international experience and to develop their world ranking points.


WTT Contender Muscat event will feature four categories including men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. All the participants will compete for the cash prize of US$75,000.



PREPARATIONS IN FULL SWING


The OTTA is gearing up to finalise the logstics and technical preparations ahead of the tournament start. The main competition venue will accommodate eight tables as eight games will be held at the same time. Many other tables will be allocated in the practicing areas for the warm-up sessions.


Egypt's Mohammed El Dawlatly is the WTT event supervisor while OTTA's Sajad Mohammed Baqir is the Event Director.


The OTTA had organised the first WTT event, 2021 WTT Youth Contender in Muscat in October last year. The event registered participation of many paddlers across the world. The WTT had sent an appreciation letter to the OTTA for the successful edition of the tournament.
