MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman hosted the 19th session of the Omani-Iranian Joint Commission, which explores avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation in various economic, trade, financial, investment, technical, industrial and other fields.
The meeting was chaired by Qais bin Mohammed al Yousuf, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, while the Iranian side was headed by Seyyed Reza Fatemi Amin, Iranian Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade.
During the discussions, both sides pledged to do more to strengthen trade relations and increase the volume of direct trade between the two countries in the fields of technical, tourism and investment goods and services.
They also reviewed opportunities for cooperation in industry, mining, financial and banking sectors and free zones. Both countries also agreed to complete the groundwork for signing a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in agriculture, livestock and fisheries.
Additionally, the two sides stressed the importance of activating the maritime cooperation agreement and MoU on mutual recognition of maritime certificates between the two countries, reviewing investment opportunities in ports and customs and cooperation in the fields of oil and gas, petrochemicals, heritage, tourism, culture, sports, youth and other fields.
They noted the importance of activating areas of cooperation between the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Joint Iranian-Omani Chamber of Commerce to facilitate visits by trade delegations as well as the hosting of specialized exhibitions to support the private sector.
Al Yousuf said the mandate of the Commission is to promote trade, industrial and investment cooperation between the two countries. He expressed Oman’s desire to benefit from Iran’s expertise in a number of areas.
Seyyed Reza applauded the strong relations between the two countries, which contributed to the strengthening of trade and economic relations, leading to the growth of the volume of direct trade between the two countries. The Joint Commission is now focused on supporting the establishment of trade partnerships and economic activities in the two countries, he added. — ONA
