New decision on helping the injured, heirs of deceased in accidents

Muscat: Sultan bin Salem Al Habsi, Minister of Finance and chairman of the board of directors of the Capital Market Authority (CMA) has issued a decision to amend some provisions of the system of the Assured Fund for the assistance of persons who suffer physical injuries, heirs of the deceased and to compensate for material damages in vehicle accidents.


The amendments stipulate that the fund will offer assitance to those with physical injuries, heirs of the deceased, compensation for material damages in the wake of vehicle accidents. The conditions include that there should be a contact or relation between the vehicles causing the accident and the injured.


In case of material damages, the value of the claim should be not less than RO500 and in the case of treatment or first aid expenses, the total value should not be less than RO500.


The decision states that the heirs of the deceased or injured or their agents must submit a request for assistance or compensation to the committee as per a specific form prepared, provided that the request includes all data and information related to the claim.


The following documents are attached with the application form.


A copy of the final report issued by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) of the accident.


A copy of the medical report issued by the Ministry of Health (MOH).


A copy of the bills for treatment and first aid expenses from a hospital in the Sultanate.


A copy of a death certificate for the deceased as a result of the accident, a copy of the legal agency representing the heirs.


A copy of the power of attorney in case the request is submitted through an agent.


Applications submitted two years from the date of the accident shall not be accepted with regard to death and physical injuries.


As for material damage, they shall not be accepted unless they are submitted within six months from the date of the accident.
