The Oman Table Tennis Association (OTTA) is gearing up to organise National Table Tennis Championship on February 13 to 15. The domestic junior event will take place in Sohar Sports Complex.
The event will be held twice as the first leg will be held in February while the second leg will take place in August.
All the participating teams in both legs will be divided into two groups. The top first teams in both groups will advance to the finals. The finals date will be decided later.
The deadline of the registration for the event will be on Tuesday and it is expected many clubs will take part in this event. The tournament will be held under strict medical protocol to ensure safety of all the players and participants from Covid-19.
The OTTA concluded recently the National TT single championship for senior category. Asad al Raisi from Seeb club was crowned as champion of the domestic top senior event after he defeated Muhannad al Balushi from Saham club 3-0 in the concluding match last Saturday.
Ghassan al Ghassani from Bahla took the bronze medal as he beat Nasser al Balushi from Saham 3-1 in the third and fourth play-off.
The championship featured participation of 59 players from 15 clubs including Seeb, Al Bashaer, Masirah, Yanqul, Salalah, Ahli Sidab, Al Mudhaibi, Saham, Jaalan, Bahla, Ibri, Mirbat, Al Suwaiq, Samayil and Qurayat.
In the concluding ceremony, OTTA Chairman Abdullah Bamakhelf delivered the international umpiring badge for the international referees who finished the examinations successfully in the last year. The list of new international umpires included Sulieman al Hatmi, Khalid al Alawi, Ahmed al Abrawi, Ayman al Jahdhami and Buthaini al Ghafri.
The OTTA is also set to host top event, the 2022 WTT Contender Championship from February 27 to March 5 at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. This international TT tourney will feature participation of many top ranking players.
