New York: The Sultanate of Oman has underscored the need to encourage peaceful dialogue and solidarity among nations as the most ideal values that guarantee the success of global cooperation initiatives.

The Sultanate of Oman expressed the conviction that such values, coupled with multilateralism, are capable of achieving and expediting the 2030 Global Agenda, responding to the needs and aspirations of countries and bridging the gaps between advanced and developing countries.

This was stated in the Sultanate of Oman’s speech before the UN Economic and Social Council’s Partnerships Forum held here.

The speech was delivered by Ahmed Dawood al Zedjali, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the UN.

The Sultanate of Oman welcomed the forum’s coverage of key developmental issues in the backdrops of coronavirus pandemic.

It valued global calls for distributing vaccines where needed, providing health and social protection and funding development programmes.

Al Zedjali laid emphasis on establishing strategic partnerships on national, regional and international arenas.

Such partnerships, the Sultanate of Oman said, should not be limited to financial support, but extend to building capacities and exchanging international expertise and practices, while at the same time applying these at the domestic level to help accelerate the momentum of the 2030 Global Agenda.

Al Zedjali highlighted the significance of defining mechanisms and approaches that provide an attractive milieu for building partnerships, upgrading performance and forging sustainable and adequate cooperation to bypass the duplication of efforts.

Al Zedjali said, "The Sultanate of Oman boasts a collaborative methodology that has been endorsed when devising our national development plan, Oman Vision 2040, to which all segments of society are committed, including government establishments and civil society institutions.”

Speaking about Oman Vision 2040, Al Zedjali said that the plan comprises national and international themes focused on utilizing knowledge and technology, furnishing social and health protection, addressing the impacts of climate change, empowering women and youth and securing fiscal sustainability.

The goals of the vision also seek to improve economic and financial performance under the current circumstances imposed by coronavirus.

Other pillars of Oman Vision 2040, Al Zedjali observed, include engaging the private sector to propel the economy, creating employment opportunities, encouraging entrepreneurship, supporting small and medium enterprises and promoting investments.
