Al Mouj Muscat Marathon, Oman's largest sports event scheduled to take place on February 11 and 12 at Al Mouj, has been postponed in the wake of surging Covid cases.

"We have decided to postpone the Almouj Muscat Marathon due to the recent rise in Covid-19 cases in the Sultanate. This is in the best interest of the event participants and spectators who had planned to attend, to help keep each other safe in these uncertain times," a statement from the organisers said. The new dates of the event will be November 11 and 12, tentatively.

"While we know this is disappointing, we hope that athletes, visitors and volunteers understand that this is a necessary step to help keep each other safe in these unprecedented times," said Sayyid Aymen al Busaidi, Vice Chairman, Sabco Sports.

"We are very grateful to the public for their assistance and understanding of the gravity of the situation. We look forward to the return of the event in November 2022 and are working towards making a bigger and better event.”

The Muscat Marathon has, in its 10th year since its maiden trail in 2012 organised by 'Muscat Road Runners' with 135 competitors, quickly grown and the response from the sport aficionados in the country has been tremendous since registrations opened at the end of September 2021, according to the organisers.
