Muscat: The Directorate General of Customs at the Royal Oman Police (ROP) will join other departments of customs all over the world in marking the International Customs Day, which falls on January 26 every year.

The event celebrates the anniversary of the Customs Co-operation Council (CCC) formed in 1953. The CCC was renamed in 1994 as the World Customs Organization (WCO).

The WCO is an intergovernmental organization that deals with governments instead of companies and private institutions.

It is mandated to tackle the challenges that come in the way of customs departments worldwide as they embark on enhancing systems, technologies and legislations related to customs.

The WCO works towards boosting global trade and encouraging international cooperation, notably in the field of customs. --ONA
