MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, on Sunday hosted the annual meeting of the project “Enhancing Agricultural Production Systems and Conserving Natural Resources in the Countries of the Arabian Peninsula”.

Dr Saif Ali al Khamisi, Director of Date Palm and Plant Production Research at the Ministry and technical coordinator of the project, said: "The Arabian Peninsula Program 'Baycarda' has contributed to implementing many research programmes, technology transfer and exchange of experiences between the member states since it started".

It also introduced modern technologies such as protected agriculture using soilless production systems and the application of integrated management of production and prevention, Dr Saif added.

He pointed out that hosting this 3-day event confirms the commitment of the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, to work with those in charge of the Arabian Peninsula Programme 'Baycarda'.

It also underscores the efforts to utilise the Omani capabilities in applying innovations and transferring modern technologies that contribute to enhancing the production of high value agricultural crops.

The meeting was attended by a number of experts and participants from the GCC countries, the Republic of Yemen and the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA). - ONA
