Korea register second successive win, Japan crush Singapore

Muscat: Korea registered their second successive victory at the 2022 Women's Asia Cup as they defeated China 4-0 on Saturday at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex for pool B matches.


The triumph meant Korean women reached the sixth point and secured spot in the semis.


In earlier match on Friday, Korean women thrashed Indonesia 7-0 in the opening game of the 2022 Women's Asia Cup which is hosted in Muscat by Oman Hockey Association (OHA).


The Korean team managed to lead pool B which feature also China and Thailand teams.


Defending champion, India, began the campaign at the 2022 Women's Asia Cup with sinking Malaysia 9-0 on Friday. With the large win, Indian women's team topping pool A with goals differences than Japan who have the same amount of points after defeating Singapore 6-0.


It was a one-sided match as Korean women dominated the show against Indonesian players. Lee Seung Ju put Korea team ahead earlier in the first half in the fifth minute.


Kim Jiyun added the margin as she scored the second goal. Two minutes later, Baek Eeseul managed to register the third goal. The Korean seeking for more goals were continued as Lee Juyeon fund the net and netted the fourth goal in the 25th minute.


The fifth goal came through Baek Eeseul while Cheon Eunbi concluded the goal spree as she scored the sixth and seventh goal in the 53rd and 60th minutes respectively.


In the following match of the tournament, which act as qualifier for the 2022 FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup, Japan registered a comfortable 6-0 win over Singapore on Friday for Pool A matches.


With the triumph, Japan claimed first three points from their opening match in Pool A. Asai Yu opened the scoring for Japan in 14th minute while Oikawa Shihori showed top performance as she netted the second and third goals in 18th and 31st minutes respectively.


Caoch Jude Menezes' women continued domination as Amiru Shimada netted the fourth goal in the 33rd minute. The fifth goal scored by Asai Yu in the 55th minute while Oikawa Shihori completed the 6-0 margin through in the 55th minute.


The head coach of Japan team, Jude Menezes, said post match the registered win is significant for the team.


“It is always great to start with victory in the opening game and thanks to the team players for good show. The team shaped very well during the fixture. We are expecting tough match in the forthcoming encounter against. We are gearing up for the next clash,” former goalkeeper of Indian team ended.
