Oman Women rode on a match-winning 152-run second wicket partnership between Fiza Javed and Vaishali Jesrani to thrash the touring Wanstead CC of UK here at Oman Cricket Turf 2 in Amerat on Thursday.

Oman now enjoy the unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20 series. The final game will be played on Friday.

Oman Women made the most of their decision to bat first, posting a robust 172 for 2 on the board thanks to a wonderful partnership between two of its most dependable batters. Fiza looked in majestic touch, mixing caution with aggression and hitting boundaries with perfect ease when they were needed. Vaishali, Oman’s most seasoned female cricketer, relied on her customary calm to craft a classic half century (53 off 52) before being run out on the last ball of the 20th over. Fiza remained unbeaten on a fabulous 81 off 64.

Wanstead got off to sound start again, reaching 51 for 1 in 11 overs before running into trouble with Saba’s departure for 22. Runs became hard to come by as Oman bowled superbly in the middle overs to bring Wanstead’s canter to a crawl. The tourists could barely reach 99 for 8 in 20 overs despite Yasmin Daswani’s fighting 47.

Sameera Khan, Afida Aftab and Priyanka Mendonca all bowled brilliantly, taking two wickets each for Oman.
