Muscat: The Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) will present their new production of Verdi’s unforgettable opera Rigoletto during 20-22 January.
The opera has been produced in collaboration with Fondazione Arena di Verona and the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre and will be performed by Fondazione Arena di Verona. With direction by the late Franco Zeffirelli, the greatest opera director of his era, ROHM’s exceptional new production of Rigoletto is a landmark celebration of the 10th anniversary of the opera house.
The ROHM will be staging Verdi's glorious opera Rigolettothis season particularly because this will be the world premiere of Franco Zeffirelli's last great work. The intrinsic synchronicity of celebrating ROHM's 10th Anniversary Season with a wonderful work by the same great director with whom the opera house opens its first season, gives this moment a special significance.
With Puccini's Turandotin 2011, ROHM began a wonderful relationship and a journey full of hope for the opera house. Now, in 2021, with Rigoletto,it marks the achievement of a decade of brilliant musical performances, with the anticipation of many more to come.
The ironic story of a cruel court jester who becomes a victim of his own crimes, this is a masterpiece which demonstrates Verdi’s astonishing brilliance in characterisation, plot dynamics and unspoken emotions in musical tapestries. Period costumes created by thrice award-winning designer Maurizio Millenotti enhance the production, with lead singers Ambrogio Maestri (Rigoletto), Dmitri Korchak (Il Duca di Mantova), and Giuliana Gianfaldoni (Gilda). The orchestra and choir of Fondazione Arena di Verona performs along with the Omani Opera Choir Group under the baton of Jan Latham-Koenig.
A pre-Performance talk for ticket holders will be held one hour prior to each performance. — ONA
