Sultanate, SA review environmental cooperation

Muscat: Dr Abdullah bin Ali al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority and his accompanying delegation, held a meeting with the minister of environment, water and agriculture of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the presence of specialists and experts to discuss joint cooperation between the two countries in a number of important environmental issues.


The two sides discussed future visions and possible aspects of cooperation between the two countries, which include cooperation and exchange of expertise in natural reserves and marine reserves management, environmental tourism management and the exchange of experiences between the two countries for appropriate management of chemicals and waste, inspection and control, training and capacity building.


The chairman of the Environment Authority stressed the importance of successful cooperation between the two countries in the field of environmental protection, expressing his satisfaction that the Oman Vision 2040 considers the issue of environmental protection and the preservation of natural resources as one of the government’s priorities towards achieving the sustainable development goals, protecting humans from harmful environmental effects, and generating economic opportunities by taking advantage of environmental components.


The chairman of the Environment Authority and his accompanying delegation visited Saudi Aramco in Riyadh, where he met with Khalid bin Khalifa al Mulhim, Executive Director of Corporate Affairs at Aramco, and a number of specialists. The meeting discussed a number of environmental issues of common concern. It also discussed Aramco’s environmental excellence strategy, environmental initiatives programmmes in air quality, emissions, management of water associated with production, waste management, training programmes in the environmental sector and integrated management of environmental data.
