The Ministry of Health reported 2,087 new cases of Covid-19 and three deaths on Sunday. Of these, 755 cases were reported on Thursday, 605 on Friday and 725 on Sunday.
With hospital in-patients going up, health experts are urging all people aged 18 and above and who have completed three months of the second dose to take the third or booster dose.
The total number of cases reported in the country till date is 312,425 while the number of deaths recorded so far is 4,122.
In the past 24 hours, 25 patients were admitted to hospitals, taking the number of inpatients to 88, including 11 in ICUs.
Reports suggest that omicron infections among those who are boosted and vaccinated are mild with little difference between a cold, the flu, or Covid-19.
“But those who are fully vaccinated are not getting seriously ill or problems with breathing, but they still have the potential to transmit to others,” a report said.
According to a consultant of pediatric infectious diseases at Sultan Qaboos University, “The studies have proved that the third dose continues to offer that protection against Omicron, is stronger with the third dose, and the ability of the virus to spread decreases with this dose The importance of the third dose lies in reducing the risk of the virus.”
Several citizens and residents have told the Observer that the situation is still confusing. “We have friends who have been reported positive despite two or three doses of vaccines. Now, we see the number of hospital patients and ICU patients going. Even deaths were reported today,” said Sanjana M, a schoolteacher.
