As many as 100 families have so far received free houses, thanks to the ongoing initiative of Dar al Atta, a charity wing registered under the Ministry of Social Development (MoSD), since it began its journey of building houses and providing shelter to deserving families since 2003.
The 100th house was handed over to a deserving citizen at the association's premises at a function held under the patronage of Laila al Najar, Minister of Social Development; Maryam al Zadjali, Chairperson; and Shamsa al Harthiya, General Manager of the association.
“This is a moment of satisfaction that we have been instrumental in providing houses to the neediest families in the country,” said Shamsa al Harthiya, General Manager of the Dar al Atta.
“We have been identifying the financially backward families, whose income has been affected as the breadwinner passed away or is suffering from some life-threatening disease, widows, orphans or those who don’t have any means to build a house,” she added.
Dar al Atta has been carrying on building houses for many families in order to secure a decent life for them and to contribute in developing and improving their living standards. Funding for these houses is from various organisations, corporates, individuals, as well as from the properties of the Association.
Dar al Atta has been keen on improving the housing situations for those in need by constructing new houses for families, and or by rehabilitation and maintenance of old houses. The Association has maintained about 956 houses to the beneficiaries across the country as part of its manifold programmes to help support society.
Through family welfare programmes for the underprivileged families in the country, Dar al Atta provides basic needs for those families from food to shelter and clothes to those who are less mobile or unable to afford them due to age, sickness or low income. The programme supports underprivileged families around the country.
The Ministry of Social Development praised the association’s continuous efforts in the community service and its effective contribution towards improving the lives of many individuals.
