There’s no denying the efforts made by the Qatari government in establishing modern and distinctive sports landmarks in recent years, including the large football stadiums that hosted thousands of fans during the Arab Cup 2021 Championship.
Doha is also on the verge of hosting the Fifa World Cup 2022 next year.
The modern international stadiums, with their aesthetic touches featuring elements of Qatari identity, heritage and culture, have attracted widespread attention.
The success of Doha’s experience in the field of sports is the subject of praise not only regionally but also globally. Many Arab and international delegations have visited the headquarters for a first-hand look at the work of skilled designers and engineers of Qatar, along with expatriate expertise, in bringing Qatar culture and heritage to life in these landmarks.
For example, the “Al Thumama” stadium, which was built in the form of “Qahfiya” or what we call it in the Sultanate of Oman, “Al Kumma”, is a wonderful masterpiece, while other stadiums bear important imprints of Qatari heritage as well.
From this standpoint, the World Cup in Qatar in 2022 will not only be a unique sporting event for Qatar, but also a cultural and urban spectacle that will put the spotlight on the nation’s economic developments as well.
This also proves to the world that Qatar is capable of facing challenges and difficulties. Qatar’s development is the result of planning and investment in infrastructure projects and quality sports institutions while using modern technologies for the success of the next global event.
In past decades, Qatar through its diplomatic, political, economic and cultural relations, has been able to create a large economic, industrial, cultural and tourist infrastructure, in addition to its success in employing its national competencies and the latest technologies in the construction of these beautiful sports edifices, to become today a major competitor to countries that hosted such events in the past.
As we have said, these institutions embody many of the national heritage components that Qatar is proud of, as well as the Gulf region, where you find sports models that resemble castles, ships, seas and others in order to remain sustainable projects.
The World Cup 2022 championship will not only be as an event for the youth, but also an opportunity for Qatar to tell the world of its great architectural and sporting achievements.
The message going out to the world is that Qatar has proven itself capable of hosting world-scale events with efficiency and competence.
In addition, Qatar has welcomed large delegations of sports contingents and media and tourism delegations during international matches. It also has commercial and entertainment centres that enable visitors to spend their spare time leisurely.
