NIZWA: The Photography Group of the Student Services Centre at the College of Applied Sciences in Nizwa organised the first Light Forum recently. The three-day programme included a range of activities including an exhibition, a practical workshop, and various competitions.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition and the launch of the group’s official logo were held under the auspices of Dr Mohammad bin Juma’a al Kharusi, Dean of the college. Members of the academic, support and administrative bodies, and a number of students participated.

The exhibition included 55 images distributed over six different types of photography: black and white, foods, portrait, products, buildings, and nature.

The Akasah shop participated in the exhibition, which gave information on the types of cameras and equipment associated with them. The exhibition also had studio for photographing guests and visitors.

A practical workshop on Photoshop, led by photographer Mohammed al Shuaili, introduced many applications to edit images using the tool. The preparations one needs to make before taking a photograph, the importance of adjusting the background to enhance quality of the image and other such technical aspects were discussed. The participants tried to practise what they learned at the worshop.

The forum's activities included a Short Video Challenge competition, which required shooting and editing a short film inside the university campus, and a photography contest.

The entries for competitions were collected at the end of the forum. The competitions were conducted to encourage and motivate students in the field of photography, and also to hone their skills and talents.

The photography group seeks to promote active participation in local and international competitions and various exhibitions. Its vision is to spread creativity around the world, characterised by quality and trust.
