Sayyid Fahd to attend 42nd GCC Summit

The Sultanate of Oman has affirmed that it would continue to support the GCC march and enhance all endeavours to serve Arab and Islamic issues

MUSCAT: On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, HH Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, will leave on Tuesday for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) to lead the Sultanate of Oman's delegation in the 42nd Summit of the GCC Leaders. The summit is scheduled to be held on December 14.


HH Sayyid Fahd will be accompanied by an official delegation comprising a number of ministers and government officials.


The Sultanate of Oman has affirmed that it would continue to support the GCC march and enhance all endeavours to serve Arab and Islamic issues. It also vowed to consolidate ties of cooperation and understanding with friendly countries.


In its 150th preparatory session for the summit, held in Riyadh on Sunday by the Ministerial Council, the GCC states affirmed that “The GCC summit of bounty and prosperity will continue to achieve the common goals of member states.


A statement issued at Al Ola Summit at the conclusion of the 41st GCC summit, “Summit of Qaboos and Shaikh Sabah”, underscored the keenness of GCC leaders to safeguard the gains of the GCC region and realize the aspirations of its peoples, as well as joint action to address the challenges that come in the way of the GCC march.”


The summit is expected to discuss a number of issues, including updates of coronavirus pandemic, means of protecting societies against the disease, coordination to tackle pandemics, completion of steps for the establishment of the Customs Union and the GCC Common Market and the development of the respective governments’ technical capabilities and educational systems.


The summit is also scheduled to discuss military integration among GCC states under the supervision of the Joint Defence Council, the Supreme Military Committee and the GCC Unified Military Leadership, based on the Joint Defence Agreement and the GCC collective security principle. The summit will also discuss ways of enhancing the GCC’s regional land international role by forging strategic partnerships with regional and global blocs and organisations. -- ONA
