Al Moutaism, Salma clinch Oman Fencing Championship titles

Muscat: Fencer Al Moutaism al Maskari representing Quryat Club clinched the title of Men’s junior Foil category competition while Salma al Dughaishi representing Salalah club emerged ladies Junior Epee category winner at Sultanate of Oman Fencing Championship which concluded recently at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bousher.


Many fencers took place in the Championship including eight clubs including: Muscat, Oman, Al Nahdha, Qurayat, Ahli Sidab, Salalah, Al Bashaer and Masirah.


Al Maskari’s triumph was registered after he defeated Ali al Busaidi (Oman Club) 10/5 in the concluding game. Ammar al Azizi from Ahli Sidab claimed the third place as he edged Ali al Hinai (Oman club) in the third and fourth place play off. Al Maskari secured spot in the final after he won Ammar al Azizi 10/5 while in the quarterfinal he registered the victory over Omar al Rajhi (Al Bashaer).


Salalah Club’s fencer Salma al Dughaishi managed to lift the ladies Junior Epee category title as she won against fencer Salma al Dughaisi from Salalah Club 15/9 in a tough encounter.


Salma al Dughaisi positioned in second place at the ladies Junior Epee category in the firs edition of the championship in November.

Al Dughaisi defeated Jana al Sharji ( Al Bashaer) 10-5 in a thriller in the concluding match. In the semifinals, she won Retal al Balushi (Masirah club) 9-10 before edging Reham al Shuaili (Oman club) 6-10 in the quarterfinal fixture.


The third edition of Oman Fencing championship was organised by the Oman Fencing Committee (OFC). HH Sayyida Hujaija bint Jaifar Al Said, was the chief guest of the event in presence of officials. She awarded the trophies and medals to the top winners during the final ceremony.


Khalid bin Said al Shuaibi, OFC chairman, thanked all the domestic clubs for their cooperation with OFA during all the previous fencing championships. “A special thanks to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and all the related government and private sectors for their continuous support to the committee. Also, a dedicated recognition for the fencer’s parents with OFC,” he said.


OFC chief affirmed that the local event assisted on enhancing the technical performance of the national fencers. “ The championship helped in boosting the sports in the Sultanate of Oman. Also, the event strengthen technical experience of the fencers and kept them in good shape for the forthcoming external participation,” he ended.
