Muscat: The Omani Students’ Society in Bristol, UK, recently celebrated the Sultanate 51st National Day, which was attended by students of various nationalities.

The students enjoyed the Omani food, which was the main highlight of the celebrations.

Bayan al Senani, a second-year student in Paramedic Science at the University of the West of England (UWE), said, “We enjoyed traditional food that offered us relief from homesickness. It made us feel like we were back in Oman amongst our own."

Apart from the food corner that served Omani coffee, halwa and dates, the activities included henna, face painting and colouring pictures.

Sulaiman al Habsi, a paramedic student at UWE Bristol, said, “The Oman National Day event was astonishing. I met a few people of different nationalities who came for the event to know more about Oman’s history."

Abdullah Alfarsi, studying finance at the University of Bristol, said, “The national day celebration was great, the food, the vibes, the people. It really made me feel like I was back home."

The National Day celebration gave an opportunity to Omani students in Bristol to get together after almost two years.

Bayan al Senani said, “The event was amazing, especially, as we had the chance to meet other Omani students in Bristol, which was not possible previously due to restrictions that were imposed to limit the spread of Covid pandemic”.

The society said it plans to host more events in the coming weeks.
