Alert: Musandam, coastal areas to get heavy rains

Muscat: The Governorate of Musandam is currently witnessing thunderstorms of varying intensity, which will be extended to North al Batinah and other coastal areas facing the Sea of Oman in the coming hours.


"Due to the heavy thundershower rainfall in the range of 30-50 ml are expected in some areas. The thundershowers will be accompanied by fresh downdraft winds, hail precipitation, and flash floods," an official statement said on Monday.


Oman Meteorology said there are also chances of rain in the governorates of North and South al Batinah and Muscat.


The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources has called on fishermen and sea-goers to take the necessary precautions to ensure their safety as well as that of their boats, ships, and equipment.


It urged all people not to risk going out to sea during this period as the Sultanate has been affected by low pressure.
