Governments accord utmost confidence in youth to direct their energy and talents in developing their countries. That is why the countries, which efficiently utilise youth in a right direction are more developed while the ones that don’t realise the real value of youth stay behind. If youth are not given the opportunity to contribute in building their nations, they might turn into a burden! Involving youth in decisions or policies making could be a very fruitful approach whereby youth can support the government authorities.

At certain situations, youth practices and principles are very useful and practical; being more worthy than the long experience of elders. Mostly, youth are more creative and devoted, so they could be consulted in the process of reviewing, setting up and implementing policies and procedures, especially in youth concerning issues.

Consulting youth to identify their demands and issues is definitely of a great support to offer youth essential needs and services. Consequently, youth will turn out to be valuable assets to their country.

Today, most of youth combine theories and experience, so they could contribute with their expertise. As His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik affirmed “Youth are the wealth of a nation, its inexhaustible resource and the arms that build it. They are its present and future. We will always listen to them, and sense their needs, interests and aspirations, which will definitely be accorded the attention that they deserve”. Lucky are the Omani youth for getting such great care.

Reflecting on this Royal confidence of His Majesty, HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, has recently announced the establishment of a ‘Youth Centre’. It serves as an incubator for youth to develop capabilities, discover their talents and nurture their creativity. This centre marks one of the ministry’s initiatives aimed at developing an integrated system of facilities in all governorates, which are expected to be capable of responding to the expectations of youth, groom their talents and champion their innovations.

Nothing of greatness can ever be achieved by any country without giving importance to their youth. Youth are an amazing power, mirroring not only the hope of future, but the actual strength of nations as well.

Youth can create a difference only when they are empowered. An empowered youth is the one who learns to work on developing his skills to start earning at an early age. This not only results in a better economy of the country, but also creates a habit and sense of responsibility in youth to do more.

Empowered youth recognise their capabilities, self-determination and worth; hence they feel comfortable trying new experiences.

They get the confidence to take risks and are aware that failure is just a step towards progress, not a sign to give up. They don’t use others’ opinions as their guideposts in life, rather they stand up for their values. In fact, they know that they have built a foundation of self-empowerment to rely on in times of struggle or when they feel lost.

Therefore, many youth empowerment programmes are launched overtime because when youth are empowered, it gives a rise to a strengthened nation. Empowered youth are always passionate and dedicated towards their work and society; they always dare to do something big for the betterment of society. Empowering youth is like a saving in a bank that thieves cannot break into. The good outcome of such an investment cannot all be consumed in totality.

At the core of youth, empowerment is the belief that young people are capable of doing incredible things. When youth have exposure to inspiring ideas and opportunities and the tools to build their confidence, they can take on anything and everything.

Dear youth, always remember that you symbolise high energy, positivity and spirit to make things happen.
