Muscat: The Environment Authority (EA) on Tuesday organised the second workshop for the GCC countries to prepare a national system for the fair and equitable sharing of genetic resources.

The two-day workshop was organised in coordination and cooperation with the GCC Secretariat General and the United Nations Environment Programme for West Asia.

The opening of the event was held under the auspices of Dr Abdullah Ali al Amari, EA Chairman.

The workshop offers a better understanding of the current situation and trends related to the implementation of Nagoya Protocol, an assessment of the experiences of the countries implementing the protocol, and comprehending the issues arising under the protocol.

It also seeks to put the GCC countries in a position to negotiate and adopt the post-2020 global biodiversity framework at the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP 15). --ONA
