

The Equestrian Society of Bahla on Friday organised an equestrian festival to mark the glorious 51st National Day in which 70 horse riders from Al Dakhiliyah Governorate participated. The festival, held under the auspices of Governor Shaikh Hilal bin Said al Hajri, was attended by several members of the State Council and Majlis Ash’shura, besides Shaikh Ali bin Mansour al Busaidy, Wali of Bahla, shaikhs and the people of the governorate including women and children.

The festival began with the reception of camel riders. The camels and its riders presented Al Tariq art in harmony with the passing of the camel caravan in an ancient folk art that conveys the Omani tradition and its ancient heritage. Poet Majid al Amiri presented the art of Rababah as one of the Omani heritage arts.
The horse show that followed included a collection of equestrian arts presented by 70 knights representing equestrian associations and clubs in the wilayats of Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.
During the horse show, a number of poems and other art forms such as Al Razha were presented.
The Omani Women’s Association in Bahla also staged a live show of the handicraft industries for which Omani women are famous.
The festival also saw staging of Al Azi, which is an art of pride and praise in which the poet sings about love for the Sultanate of Oman and its leader.
Saud bin Abdullah al Nabhani, director of the festival, said: “This folk festival is organised by the Bahla Equestrian Association and held under the supervision of the office of the governor of Bahla. It came as an expression of the great joy that the people of Bahla expressed on the occasion of the 51st Glorious National Day.
“The festival’s activities showcased heritage in harmony with the renewed renaissance that our beloved country is experiencing under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.”
