Winners of UNESCO-Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Preservation 2021 named

Paris: Dr Audrey Azoulay, Director General of the UNESCO and the Office of Man and Biosphere Programme, has named winners of the 16th edition of the UNESCO-Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Preservation for 2021.


The prize was awarded jointly to Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) and University of International Cooperation, or "Universidad para la Cooperación Internacional (UCI)," represented by the Latin America School for Protected Areas or "Escuela Latinoamericana de Áreas Protegidas – ELAP" - Costa Rica.


Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), founded in 1929, is one of the leading institutions in tropical forestry research in the world. It promotes sustainable management and optimal utilization of forest resources in Malaysia through the production and development of knowledge and technology via research and development and their applications in tropical forests.


The University of International Cooperation, or "Universidad para la Cooperación Internacional (UCI)," represented by the Latin America School for Protected Areas or "Escuela Latinoamericana de Áreas Protegidas – ELAP" - Costa Rica, is actively involved in the field of protected areas in various Latin American and Caribbean countries, in addition to its efforts to raise awareness of climate change and biodiversity loss through the implementation of initiatives in the Renewable Communities Network. --ONA
