51st National Day: A pledge to preserve gains

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman will celebrate the 51st National Day on Thursday and its people are determined to preserve the gains and achievements of the renewed Blessed Renaissance, with firm loyalty to the leader of the victorious march, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, who since assuming the reins of government on January 11, 2020, emphasized his quest to elevate this country and raise its status.


The beginning of this year witnessed the issuance of the Basic Law of the State in accordance with Royal Decree 6/2021, which will be a cornerstone for continuing efforts and formulating a better future for Oman and the Omanis and a solid base for their Renewed Renaissance. It enhances rights, duties, and public freedoms and establishes a stable mechanism for the transmission of governance, which will have a positive impact on a number of aspects such as the political and economic, in addition to its emphasis on the principle of the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary as a basis for governance in the state and the obligation of education 'until the end of the basic education stage' and the rooting of the scientific method in thinking talent development, and encouraging innovation,” which is in line with Oman’s Vision 2040.


Articles 5 to 11 of the Basic Law of the State regulated the mechanism of the succession of the rule of authority in the Sultanate of Oman in a clearer and smoother manner, as Article (5) stipulated that “the system of government is a Hereditary Sultan in the male offspring of Sultan Turki bin Said bin Sultan, in accordance with the provisions The following:- The rule of authority passes from the Sultan to his eldest son, then the eldest son of this son. The guardianship passes to the eldest of his brothers, if he has no brothers, it passes to the eldest sons of his eldest brothers, and if the eldest of his brothers does not have a son, then to the eldest sons of his other brothers, according to the order of the age of the brothers. The uncles and their children are in the order specified in item (second) of this article. It is stipulated that whoever assumes the rule should be a Muslim, sane, and a legitimate son of Omani Muslim parents.


Additionally, the Basic Law of the State stipulates that in case that succession move person who is under 21 years of age, the power of the Sultan should be exercised by Guardian Council appointed by the Sultan. In case that a Guardian Council has not been appointed, the Royal Family Council should appoint a Guardian Council comprising of the Sultan's brothers and two of his cousins.


Article (7) allows for the appointment of a Crown Prince by a Royal order in accordance with the text of Article (5) of the Basic Law of the State. The royal order defines his competencies and the tasks assigned to him. The Crown Prince, before exercising his powers or the tasks assigned to him, shall take the oath stipulated in Article 10 of the system before the Sultan.


Royal Decree 7/2021 defined its prerogatives of Oman Council law, conditions for its membership, and all rights and duties of its members and other affairs of the Council.


Fighting Covid-19


The Covid 19 created different consequences in all countries of the world, especially in the social and economic aspects. The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Supreme Committee took decisions that took into account these two aspects - Precautionary measures largely ensured the safety of citizens and residents on this good land, in addition to cooperation and community response and the provision of internationally approved anti-virus vaccines according to a national campaign for immunization, which positively reflected in dealing with the pandemic at the level of the Sultanate of Oman, which was confirmed by His Majesty the Sultan at the meeting of the Supreme Committee on August 18 in Salalah.


“This improvement would not have been achieved without the appropriate decisions that were taken and the efforts made by all parties in the Sultanate of Oman, especially the health sector, and the high sense of responsibility shown by all members of society from through their commitment to those decisions and the controls set by the concerned authorities, which collectively aim to preserve the public health of individuals and society."


These decisions and the measures taken have led to an improvement in the indicators of the epidemiological situation of the Sultanate of Oman, in terms of recording a significant decrease in deaths, infection rates and the sick, and the cure rate, which reached 98.5 percent, supported by a national vaccination campaign that included most groups of society, including citizens and residents, by 83 percent.


The government also paid attention to the economic effects created by the pandemic through the committee to address the economic effects resulting from Covid 19.


Political relations


The Sultanate of Oman’s tireless endeavor to contribute to the service of peace issues was also demonstrated through a number of issues, such as its support for the positive developments that resulted from the Al-Ula Summit held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the success of the reconciliation efforts led by the State of Kuwait and its continued emphasis in international forums on the justice of the Palestinian cause. and the demands of the Palestinian people, and its endeavors with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the UN and US envoys for Yemen and the concerned Yemeni parties to reach a comprehensive political settlement of the crisis in Yemen, in addition to the Iranian nuclear file, and its continued condemnation of terrorism in all its forms.


The Sultanate of Oman has taken upon itself a commitment to honesty and objectivity in its various political positions, supported by solid Omani values ​​and principles, with a balanced and constructive approach.


The state visit by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in July, and his meeting with his the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud, King of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has profound indications of the power that binds the two brotherly countries and peoples, especially as it is the first visit paid by the HM the Sultan to outside the Sultanate of Oman since he took over the reins of power, which culminated in the establishment of the Saudi-Omani Coordination Council and opened wider and wider horizons between the two brotherly countries for cooperation in various fields, especially the economic.
