Muscat: Authorities confirmed on Tuesday that holding any kind of events or celebrations to mark the 51st National Day has been prohibited.

According to a circular issued by the Ministry of Social Development (MOSD) said that “it is prohibited to hold special events and celebrations to mark the occasion of the 51st National Day. This decision has been taken as part of precautionary measures because gatherings may result in an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases.”

The Ministry of Education has also asked all schools not to hold any special celebrations to make the National Day, which may lead to social gatherings and interactions.

The Minister of Health, responding to queries at the press conference, on Monday said the decision to ban group events is still valid, urged the concerned authorities to take necessary action in case of any violations.

He said the Supreme Committee is following up the situation at local and international levels due to concerns of a new wave, which has been reported in some countries.

“We hope that we do not have to close activities again. The matter is in our hands, so everyone must bear his or her responsibility,” the minister said.

He also urged the imams of mosques and worshipers to maintain social distancing and take precautionary measures.
