As part of its larger initiative to support camel racing in the Sultanate, Occidental Oman representatives recently attended the Al Fulaij Main Camel Race in Muscat governorate, which was organized by the Oman Camel Racing Federation, and sponsored by Occidental Oman.
Held under the auspices of His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth; the event was attended by Stephen Kelly, President and General Manager at Occidental Oman; and Saif al Busaidi, Vice President of Human Resources, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Admin at Occidental Oman, along with other senior representatives of the company.
A total of 2700 camels competed to win on the racetracks, and after 8 rounds, 8 winners were declared. Occidental Oman awarded each of the winners with a pickup truck, in accordance with the sponsorship agreement previously signed between Occidental Oman and the Oman Camel Racing Federation.
Occidental Oman will also award 16 winners of the 3 following sponsored races with pickup trucks. Future sponsored races include the race taking place in Ibri, Al Dhahirah Governorate; the race taking place in Haima, Al Wusta Governorate; and the Main Race, taking place in Sohar, Al Batinah North Governorate.
Occidental Oman has supported 26 camel races during the last eight years, as the initiative engages with a sport historically tied to the culture of local communities. This sponsorship comes within the framework of Occidental Oman’s long-term commitment to strengthen its social ties with the communities located in its concession areas and the wider Omani population, and it enhances the strategic partnerships and continuous collaboration with key stakeholders.
