India thump Scotland to keep hopes alive

minus
plus

Indian batsmen and bowlers produced a sensational effort to crush Scotland by eight wickets and boost their chances of qualifying for the semifinals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, in Dubai on Friday.

India have a Net Run Rate (NRR) of +1.619 and this victory has taken them ahead of Afghanistan who have a NRR of +1.481. India's fortunes now hinge of the result of the New Zealand-Afghanistan match on Sunday. An Afghanistan victory would give India the chance of pipping the Kiwis and Afghans on NRR in their last group match against Namibia.

KL Rahul's 50 off just 19 balls comprising three sixes and six fours and Rohit Sharma's 30 in 16 balls powered India to a resounding victory by eight wickets in 6.3 overs with 81 balls to spare.

INDIAN BOWLERS SHINE

Earlier, India produced a terrific bowling performance to bowl out Scotland for 85 in 17.4 overs.

Ravindra Jadeja (3/15), Mohammad Shami (3/15) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/10) were among the pick of the wickets. Ravichandran Ashwin claimed a wicket as well as the Scots were left clueless against the vastly experienced Indian bowling attack.

Only four Scottish batsmen touched double digit figures as the Indian bowlers ran riot with their penetrative lines and lengths.

India were left with a target of 86 that they were looking to overhaul as quickly as possible and losing as few wickets or no wicket at all to get their Net Run Rate (NRR) up significantly.
