

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation has signed a cooperation agreement with Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) for funding 170 scholarships for general education diploma (GED) graduates for the academic year 2020-2012.
The agreement was signed by Dr Rahma bint Ibrahim al Mahrouqiyah, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation and Abdul Amir bin Abdulmuhsin al Ajmi, External Affairs and Value Creation Director at PDO.
The agreement provides for the allocation of RO 3,774,000 by PDO for 170 students to study the bachelor’s programme of their choice in accordance with the system of the Unified Admission Center, except for human and veterinary medicine, at universities and private colleges within the country. The scholarships are dedicated to students residing within the concession areas.
The agreement aims to link development projects with society and to emphasize that the citizen is the primary development goal and achieve common goals of sustainable development. Through the agreement, the ministry seeks to enhance partnership with private sector institutions and urge companies to contribute to providing educational opportunities for the GED graduates to study within the country. — ONA
