MUSCAT: Playing a pioneering role in the development of the Islamic finance industry, Muzn, National Bank of Oman’s (NBO) Islamic banking window, recently sponsored the Islamic Finance News (IFN) Forum 2021.

Salima Al Marzouqi, Muzn’s Head of Islamic Banking, was part of a panel entitled ‘Oman Vision 2040 and The Islamic Economy: Improving Livelihoods and Creating Prosperity’. The sixth edition of the annual forum brought together leading Islamic finance practitioners and regulators from around the region to connect, converse, and further develop the market.

Al Marzouqi said, “The Sultanate of Oman’s Islamic finance industry continues to flourish, while playing an ever-expanding role in the country’s vision for economic diversification and development. As the first Islamic banking window, Muzn is committed to supporting this role, particularly through social impact products and strategies that promote entrepreneurship and financial inclusion in Oman, thereby creating jobs and improving livelihoods.”

The forum opened with a keynote address from Abdullah Salim Al Salmi, Executive President of the Capital Market Authority, and welcomed 18 speakers, covering topics such as green, transition and sustainability-linked finance, sukuk and investment funds, Islamic fintech and crowdfunding platforms and the issues facing Islamic banks and Islamic financing in Oman.

Launched in 2013, Muzn Islamic Banking was the first Islamic Window to operate in the Sultanate. Today, it holds a leading position in driving the sector’s growth and was recently named Islamic Bank of the Year - Oman 2021 by The Banker.
