Muscat: A programme of technical cooperation was signed here on Sunday to promote partnership to address issues of environment protection and pollution control. It was signed by the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) and Duqm Refinery and Petrochemical Industries Company (OQ8).

The programme seeks to develop an institutional scheme for the exchange of experiences and information in the field of environment protection and pollution control.

The pact was signed by Eng Ahmed bin Hassan al Dheeb, Deputy Chairman of OPAZ, and Eng Wael Khalid Salmeen, CEO of Duqm Refinery and Petrochemical Industries Company for Operations.

The technical cooperation programme stipulates building local capacities in environmental disciplines, opening communication channels to exchange expertise and information between the two sides in the field of environmental protection and pollution control.

It also includes organizing awareness programmes and events, and holding regular meetings under the name of “The Green Table” to discuss common environmental issues and find appropriate solutions to the common challenges.

The pact also stipulates drafting an annual action plan to transform various aspects of cooperation into achievements to be implemented and followed up by the departments concerned. --ONA
