The immaculate natural resources of the Dhofar Governorate, the unique animals, fish and several species of birds found in the region are soon going to be televised on a global television channel specialised in the environment.

The initiative, conceived by Maisa al Hooti, a passionate underwater photographer and conservation advocate who runs ‘Oman in Focus’ for many years, aims to feature Oman’s unique environmental assets on a global platform.

With the documentary film on Oman from Musandam to Dhofar, Maisa and her team believe it’s good to shed more light on the fact that we need to protect our nature and other creatures around us. It is also an attempt to tell the world that Oman is home to many of these unique animals and birds. Many people travel to other countries to see them.

The team ‘Oman in Focus’ has been filming diversified geological features that make it stand out from the rest since March this year and has been working closely with the Office for the Conservation of the Environment, Diwan of the Royal Court in tracking down some of the species for filming.

“I have always been fascinated by many things around me, be it pictures, painting, colours, nature or whatever, it is very hard for me not to see the beauty in everything God gifted us as human beings and to showcase them to the world,” Maisa told the Observer.

Her passion witnessed a great milestone when she invited a highly professional video crew to work along with the local expertise to result in a documentary featuring the rare species of animals, mammals and birds that Oman is home for.

“The team is filming the incredible scenery of the Dhofar Governorate and the exclusive geo landscape of the region which is home for unique species such as hyena, wolves, scorpions, and the like,” said Lerlynn Landsman, Line Producer and Stefania Muller, Director.

Documentary

A segment of the film would also be featuring the Dhofari frankincense trees in their natural environment.

The Taleam Oman in Focus will make a two-part documentary the first of which will showcase the wildlife and unique biodiversity of Oman. A second documentary will feature the various conservation efforts that are under way in Oman.

The entire country has interesting habitats, such as Musandam, Sur, Dimaniyat Island, Ras al Jinz, Ras al Hadd, Hasik, Masirah Island, Jabal Samhan, Bar al Hikman, Al Wusta, Nizwa, Jabal Akhdhar and so on form part of the film.

She added that many international broadcasters are currently in the pipeline, ready to show the film to the world and the support from various corners that she and her team received was really overwhelming that prompted them to take major steps forward.

The team is supported by Khalid bin Mohammed al Hikmani (Head of Nature Reserves Section), Said bin Mohammed al Zabanoot (Senior wildlife ranger), Talal bin Said al Shahari (Senior wildlife ranger), and Mohammed al Ma’ashani, a local wildlife expert who has been assisting Oman in Focus Team to track wildlife in the area.
