MUSCAT, Oct 23

Unauthorised digging and excavation work carried out by contractors have contributed to as many as 72 power outages stemming from cable cuts in various parts of the capital region so far this year.

According to Muscat Electricity Distribution Company (MEDC), cable cuts attributable to contractors without excavation permits have so far led to 158 outages since the start of 2020.

The utility urged contractors to obtain drilling permits before commencing any excavation work, warning that failure to do so will attract legal penalties.
