Muscat: The Council of Ministers has approved the National Digital Economy Programme (DEP), which will be endorsed by the Sultanate of Oman as one the goals to build a vibrant economy.

The DEP envisages a set of medium-term and long-term approaches aligned with Oman Vision 2040. Its salient features include creating national industries based on the digital economy, fostering the in-country value (ICV), establishing strategic partnerships with the private sector, and empowering economic sectors of the 10th Five Year Plan.

Eng Said Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communication and Information Technology, said that the endorsement of the DEP will speed up digital transformation in the public sector, upgrade the level of electronic services rendered to citizens and serve as a strategic reference point for coordination among components of the economy in the Sultanate of Oman.

In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), the minister said that the DEP will expedite and facilitate the digitization of tasks in economic and strategic sectors. It will focus on cloud services, cybersecurity, and techniques of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), among other measures aimed to spur economic growth and help attract foreign investments to the Sultanate. --ONA
