EU Foreign Ministers call for closer EU-GCC cooperation

Brussels: A number of European Union (EU) Foreign Ministers called for closer EU ties and cooperation with the GCC countries ahead of a discussion on EU-GCC ties during their meeting in Luxembourg on Monday.


Anze Logar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, told reporters ahead of the meeting that "We look forward for discussion with the GCC countries", noting that EU High Representative Josep Borrell recently visited the GCC region."It's in our mutual interest to enhance this cooperation from different perspective from Green transition to migrant topics," he said.


Slovenia currently holds the EU Presidency. Gordan Grlic Ramadan, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia said, "We will start our discussions with the GCC countries, very important region where we see positive trends".


"We will explore how we can work more with our GCC partners in different areas from economy to security," he said.


Robert Rydberg, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden said among Sweden's priorities in today's meeting is "to support an active EU role in the strategically important Gulf region".--ONA
