Omantel League kicks off today with four games

After an absence of long period, the Omani League Union at Oman Football Association (OFA) is all set to begin the 2021/2022 Omantel League.


The domestic clubs completed their technical preparations for the commencement of the top-tier league and new footballing season through a series of internal camps and friendly matches.


The new season will register attendance of many domestic coaches including coach Rasheed Jaber (Dhofar), Ali al Balushi (Zizwa), Moahmmed al Maqbali (Sohar), Hamed al Azani (Al Nahdha), Hussain al Hadhari (Muscat), Nasser al Hajri (Saham), Hussain al Saadi (Al Mussnah) and Ibrahim Somar (Oman club).


The top fixture of the opening round is the northern Batinah clash as Sohar will take on Al Suwaiq at Sohar Sports Complex on Saturday.


Three more matches will be held on Saturday as Nizwa will host Al Nasr while Al Mussnah will travel to Buraimi to meet Al Nahdha. Omantel League defending champion, Seeb, will meet Saham at the latter’s home in Sohar Sports Complex.


The opening round matches will continue on Sunday as Muscat and Dhofar will play at the Seeb Stadium.


Al Rustaq will commence their campaign in the domestic league by a tough fixture with the hosts Al Ittihad at Al Saada Stadium. Oman club will face Bahla in the concluding match of the first week.


Former captain of the national team Ahmed Kanu and his team-mates will look for a strong start as they will meet Sohar in the top encounter of the week.


The Suwaiq team prepared properly for the new season as they signed with many top players and appointed Austrian coach Mladen Posavec to head the technical staff of the team.


On the other hand, the hosts Sohar will eye the initial three points which will encourage the team for a better show in the forthcoming weeks.


The former coach of the Olympic national team, Hamed al Azani, will aim for a positive start in the league. Juma Saeed is back to Al Nadhdha and he is expected to show his top performance and assist the team in the whole season. Al Mussnah will look for a better season as they showed an excellent performance in the previous season.


The league title holders, Seeb, will chase for snatching the winning points against Saham in a tough clash but the hosts Saham will play with an advantage of presence of fans at Sohar Sports Complex.


Seeking for the first victory and recording a strong start will be the main desired target of all the Omantel League clubs in the first week. The excitement will be the title of the first week matches.


The Omani League Union officials announced recently that they will allow 50% attendance of the spectators at the venue to ensure the safety of the fans. According to the union, showing the vaccination certificate and wearing the medical masks are mandatory to enter in all the sporting venues to attend the league matches.
