Falcons, Nawras claim ice hockey Challenge Cup honours

Falcons club clinched the Oman ice hockey challenge cup recently. The championship was organised by the Oman Skating Sports Committee for Level B (rookie) players on October 8 at the Funzone Al Qurum ice rink.


In the final, the Falcons team beat the Wolves team 3-1. The Fox team came in third place after they beat Stars team 2-1.


In the women's section final, Nawras beat Muscat to win the trophy.


Faisal al Abri won the award for the best defender in the tournament, while the award for the best striker went to Salem al Shehibi.


The Oman Skating Sports Committee (OSSC), which includes skateboarding, figure skating, ice hockey, aims to spread the skating sports in the Sultanate by organising various tournaments and activities.


Saeed Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Oman Skating Sports Committee, stressed the importance of such tournaments to raise the performance of teams and players, especially after the long hiatus due to the Corona pandemic.


Kuwait will host the first ever GCC Winter Games in January 2022 and the OSSC is in the process of constituting the Oman national teams to compete in the championships.


Al Zaabi thanked the Fun Zone Centre for the facilities they provide to support the game's activity and contribute to sponsoring the tournament. He also thanked Wissam Sports Company for its support for the tournament.
