Armed forces step in to help citizens, residents

Muscat: As part of the action plan of the National Committee for Emergency Management, the Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF) provided support to the Shaheen-hit areas of Muscat, Al Dhahirah, North and South Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, Al Dakhiliyah on Monday. The Royal Army of Oman (RAO) coordinated with the Royal Air Force Oman (RAFO) to conduct relief operations in several locations.


The Ministry of Defence (MoD) represented by the Engineering Services too provided all technical and civil services. The Engineering Services in the ministry gave the needed equipment and machinery to pave roads and open safe passages for people in affected areas.


The unit also gave support by providing electrical generators for areas that faced outage due to the cyclone.


A number of evacuation operations too were conducted by RAFO for citizens and residents. Some of them were stranded or too sick to move to hospitals.


In addition to these services, RAFO also transported a number of medical supplies and a number of patients who needed special attention to various other governorates of Oman.


MoD and all its units are working hard to restore various services in the governorate by fixing damaged roads and removing debris, reconnecting electricity and fixing water networks.


The ministry is also working hard to provide all the supplies needed to residents and citizens of the governorate, in addition to conducting search and rescue missions.
