MUSCAT: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism called on all hotel establishments located on the coastal strip from Muscat Governorate to North Al Batinah Governorate to evacuate inmates and visitors to alternative places.

“The evacuation is necessitated due to the tropical storm Shaheen that is advancing towards the coastal areas of the Sultanate”, a circular from the ministry said.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources called on farmers, beekeepers and livestock breeders to take the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of beehives and livestock.

A circular from the ministry called on everyone to stay away from wadisand not to approach dams.

Earlier in a statement, Major Mohammed bin Salam Al-Hashami of the National Committee for Emergency Management said, the low-lying areas that are located on the coastal strip of the Governorate of Muscat are witnessing a rise in the water level due to the extended waves.

“This may increase in the coming hours due to the rise of the water level and the entry of water into the homes in the areas”, he said.

The low-lying areas in Muscat are mainly Qurum, Azaiba and Al Ghubra, as well as Seeb adjacent to the coastal strip.
