Cyclone Shaheen: Muscat receives record rains

Muscat: As the cyclone Shaheen gets closer to the shores of the Sultanate, heavy rains and strong winds are reported across the coastal-belt governorates.


Amounts of rain recorded in some meteorological stations of the Civil Aviation Authority until ten o'clock:



  • Muscat city 152.4 ml

  • ​​​​​​​Al Amerat 117.2 ml

  • Bousher 51.4 ml


Direct effects have started in the governorates of Muscat and South Al Batinah, accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds, and upcoming effects on the governorates of North Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah, Al Buraimi and Al Dakhiliyah," The National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center said in the fourth warning.


As per Oman's weather office, The center of the tropical cyclone is about 80 km from Muscat. The wind speed around the center is estimated at 65 to 75 knots.
