Oman, India sign MoU to enhance maritime security cooperation

MUSCAT: The Maritime Security Center (MSC) and the Indian Naval Forces signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the MSC's HQs in Al Murtafaa Camp on Monday.


The MoU was signed by Rear Admiral Saif Nasser al Rahbi, Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO), Head of the Maritime Security Committee, and from the Indian side by Admiral Karambir Singh, Chief of the Naval Staff in the Republic of India.


The MoU aims at enhancing the existing joint cooperation between the MSC and the Indian Navy's Information Management and Analysis Centre (IMAC) in the fields of maritime security and information exchange between the two friendly countries in order to maintain safety in the maritime navigation against various hazards.


After the signing ceremony, the Indian military official toured the MSC's facilities. He was briefed on the tasks and roles of the centre in managing and leading operations of the maritime security in terms of maritime hazards, mainly search and rescue operations and protecting the marine environment from various risks.



MEETING WITH OFFICIALS


Earlier, Vice Admiral Abdullah Khamis al Ra'eesi, Chief of Staff of the Sultan's Armed Forces (SAF), received in his office at Al Murtafaa Camp on Monday Admiral Karambir Singh, Chief of the Naval Staff in the Republic of India and his delegation, currently visiting the Sultanate.


The meeting discussed means of enhancing the existing military cooperation between the armed forces of the two friendly countries and reviewed several matters of common interests.


Rear Admiral Saif Nasser al Rahbi, Commander of Royal Navy of Oman (RNO), also received Admiral Singh and his delegation.


During the meeting, the two sides reviewed fields of the existing maritime cooperation between the RNO and the Indian Navy, as well as exchanging views on several matters of common interests.


Admiral Singh also met with Dr Mohammed Nasser al Zaabi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence.


The two sides exchanged views on several military matters of common interest.


The meeting was attended by Rear Admiral Saif Nasser al Rahbi, Commander of Royal Navy of Oman, the Indian Ambassador to the Sultanate, Defence Attaché at the Indian Embassy in Muscat and the delegation accompanying the guest.


VISIT TO NDC


Admiral Singh and his delegation visited the National Defense College (NDC).


Upon the guest’s arrival, he was received by Air Vice Marshal Saleh Yahya al Maskari, NDC Commandant.


The guest and his accompanying delegation were briefed on the college's facilities and equipment, as well as various departments and halls designed according to the latest specifications and equipped with the best educational systems, training aids and multi-purpose electronic network systems. -- ONA
