Book on Oman-India historical ties launched

The book ‘Oman–India Ties Across Sea and Space’ was officially launched at the Indian Embassy by Ali bin Khalfan al Jabry, the Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Information, and Munu Mahwar, the Ambassador of India to the Sultanate, in the presence of dignitaries and the co-authors on Sunday.


The book comes in commemoration of Oman’s 50th National Day coinciding with 75 years of India’s Independence.


At the event the ambassador of India said, “There is so much to write about India-Oman relationship which is about 5,000 years old, historical links, the vibrant people to people ties, growing economic ties, close security cooperation and opportunities for further expansion. The book has more than 300 pages and must have been challenging to do justice to each facet of the relationship.



“I recall during the prime minister of India’s visit to Oman in 2018, the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, may his blessed soul rest in peace, said, ‘Sky is the limit for the Oman-India cooperation.’


“I would like to thank both the authors and everyone who contributed to the book, and the officials of the Ministry of Information and Oman Daily Observer.”


In his address Al Jabry said, “we are here together to launch the valuable book marking the deep relations between Oman and India, two friendly countries for over decades of civilisational contacts and joint contribution to enhance values of regional neighbourhood.


“We would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to the Indian Ambassador accredited to the Sultanate and the entire Indian Embassy in taking the initiative in bringing out this book, which includes treasures of knowledge. Undoubtedly this book aims at rooting the cultural and historical dimensions for the bilateral relations between the two nations,” said the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information.


The book written by Samuel Kutty, Senior Editor of the Observer, and Sandhya Rao Mehta, Associate Professor of SQU, and published by Oman Daily Observer in association with the Embassy of India, Sultanate of Oman.
