Over 360 mosques in Oman will have Friday prayers after more than 18 months. “Mosques are allowed to resume Friday prayers with strict adherence to Covid protocols and any mosque which is found to be violating the rules will have to face action,” Ali al Ghafri from MoARA said.

Accordingly, each mosque should form a team of volunteers to supervise the congregation and should also verify believers have taken at least one dose of the vaccine.

Those who want to offer Friday prayer must possess a vaccination certificate. Mosques are allowed to operate at 50 per cent of the capacity.

Social distancing of at least 2 metres is a must and face masks should be worn throughout the prayers. Each one should bring in their own personal rug and it shouldn’t be shared.

Mosques should report directly to the ministry in case any violation is noticed. “Both mosque authorities and believers are urged to follow strict adherence to safety of themselves and others without which it would be difficult to proceed,” Ali said.
